Michelle, a French girl of Portuguese descent, comes to Portugal, against her family's wishes, in an attempt to find a man who could be her biological grandfather. In addition to this man, whose existence is shrouded in mystery, Michelle encounters the harsh reality of a migrant community in the South of the country. This contemporary tragedy is constructed as “an intergenerational family drama about trauma, abandonment and separation.” Sul is the second part of a diptych dedicated to migrations, with text and direction by Tiago Correia, which began with O Salto, a play about illegal Portuguese emigration in the early 1970s. Between one work and another, the aim is to open paths for a broader reflection on the themes of memory (or forgetting) and the “volatility of contemporary human relations”.
A Turma is a structure financed by the Portuguese Republic – Ministry of Culture / DGArtes of its own creations in the field of performing and audiovisual arts, also focusing on scenic and dramaturgical research on language and human relationships.
