February 16, 1986. Mário Soares is running in the second round of the Presidential Elections. With the country divided between the left and the right and emotions running high, Mário Soares may be the only one capable of ensuring political stability and peace and uniting the country. As election night progresses, Soares recalls the difficult moments of his political life, from the times of resistance to the Regime, to the fierce struggles in the post-25th April period, to the start of the presidential elections, where he was considered the least likely candidate to win. The friendships that were lost along the way, the sacrifices demanded of his wife and children, the tremendous risks of public life, where security and even life itself are at stake. Everything seems to be leading up to this moment. The moment of all decisions. The moment when Mário Soares is about to become “the president of all Portuguese people”.

À medida que a noite eleitoral avança, Soares recorda os momentos difíceis da sua vida política, dos tempos da resistência ao Regime, às lutas acesas no período do pós 25 de Abril, à partida para as presidenciais, onde era considerado o candidato menos provável à vitória. As amizades que se perderam pelo caminho, os sacrifícios exigidos à mulher e aos filhos, os riscos tremendos da vida pública, onde se joga a segurança e a própria vida.
