Dinis Sousa, principal conductor of the Royal Northern Sinfonia (Newcastle) and founder of Orquestra XXI, leads the Orquestra do Mondego International Music Academy together with four young conductors, academy fellows of this pioneering project in Portugal. One of Beethoven’s most celebrated works, the Eroica Symphony is a large-scale composition that marked the beginning of the composer’s innovative “middle period.”
Composed mainly between 1803 and 1804, the work broke new ground in terms of symphonic form, length, harmony, emotional depth, and cultural significance. It is widely regarded as a milestone in the transition from the Classical to the Romantic era, and is even frequently considered the first Romantic symphony.
The funds raised from the Eroica Symphony concert will benefit APCCEREBRO, a non-profit organization founded in January 2025, dedicated to supporting patients, families, and caregivers of people with brain cancer.
