In 2018, during a play in Natal, Brazil, 109 people wrote letters to the future and never returned to retrieve them.
For eight years, these letters remained sealed while the world weathered a pandemic, the rise of artificial intelligence, profound political transformations, and shifts in the way we imagine the future.
In 2026, the theater is, once again, the time and space for us to imagine, together, possible answers to an urgent question: what kind of tomorrow is worth wishing for? A person who hopes for the future plants seeds. A person who fears the future builds walls. Perhaps we have spent the last few years trying to predict the future and have forgotten how to hope for it. This play is an invitation to plant—here and now—a gesture, a word, a glance, or an encounter that cultivates new horizons. Moving between documentary, performance, and participatory theater, the production develops scenic devices in which the opening of letters to the future becomes the theatrical event itself. The work is created amid the mystery of a letter still sealed and the possibility that the future remains a place worth betting on.
As part of the residency, prior to the public unveiling of the process, activities will be held in the cities hosting the project, inviting residents of Marinha Grande and Lousã to write letters to their futur
